These light switch plates celebrate Brooklyn’s industrial history and the Brooklyn Navy Yard where they are made. The neighbourhood is made of construction suppliers, manufacturing, and artisans in an active manufacturing district. These light switch plates are made from materials sourced from a local coffee roaster and pizza restaurant within walking distance from the ceramic studio.

During the building process, coffee grinds are wedged into porcelain to give it structure. They allow the clay to dry more evenly, leaving imprints after burning away in the kiln. The glaze is made from wood ash and porcelain slip, which gives the clay a subtle warm white colour.

The plates are available with squared-cut edges or rolled edges, which reveal the process of stretching  and compression during fabrication. The collection of switch plates include single and double gang plates compatible with toggle light switches, rocker switches, and GFCI outlets. Custom configurations and additional gangs can be made upon request.
