This round back chair is an ode to the Chinese immigrant neighbourhoods of Toronto. Drawing from Ming dynasty armchairs, it brings old traditions to a new home. It celebrates good food and rituals that bring people together. It is simple and elegant. Its understated presence is equally at ease in home-cooked dinners, multi-generational gatherings, and connoisseurial tea ceremonies.

The chair is made of solid American Black Walnut sourced from a small-scale sawmill that reclaims fallen yard trees. Following traditional woodworking techniques, the chair is made entirely of wood and designed to endure as an heirloom object. The all-wood joints do not rust, can be disassembled, and are easily repaired. Using a combination of compound angle CNC milling and precise hand tools, these connections tight joints allow for a minimal silhouette with a solid slab seat, clean plucky legs, and a smooth round back.
